LAPD Wants to Terminate Valid CCW Licenses

Follow Us By Luke McCoy – March 29, 2019 Original Article Here It is well known that it can be difficult or downright impossible to get a concealed carry permit in some counties of California. Being one of the few “May Issue’ states, it is up to the local Sherriff or police chief to decide if they will accept your “good… Read more →

S&W M&P Shield 9MM

S&W M&P Shield 9MM Customized
This is my newest favorite carry pistol. It is compact, it carries a decent amount of rounds and with the right rounds, this weapon save your life along with saving your back, hip and every other part of your body that doesn’t like carrying a heavy, thick large caliber pistol. Normally I carry my H&K USP 45 Compact but as soon as i picked up this it instantly became my favorite small caliber carry and it shoots like a laser.

M&P Shield 9MM in Kryptek Typhon

I have had the gun customized with a standard tightening of the trigger and having the action smoothed out and I added the XS Big Dot Sight system because I think it is one of the best sight systems for quick target acquisition. It provides an easy, point and shoot system. With little need to align that back sight up with the front and then try to get it in between these tiny little posts to hit something. Just put the big dot on the target and if it’s close to center and close to the level plane of the rear sight you’re gonna hit something close to that spot. Well worth the upgrade!
The next customization I did to the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9MM customized was to get it decked out in my favorite camouflage, the Kryptek Typhoon pattern! The excellent work was done by Controlled Chaos Arms. They do excellent work and they have a great turn around time, if you are looking for custom gunsmiths, check them out. I also want to say that WeaponWorx also does fantastic work and they should also be considered if you are looking for work done as you can see with my Glock Model 22 Gen 2 that WeaponWorx did.

Glock Model 22 Generation 2

Glock Model 22 Generation 2 Customized Guy Fawkes .40CAL

My customized Glock Model 22 .40 caliber that I had modified and Cerakote work done to it by WeaponWorx. I had stippling work done to increase grip texture. Along with the normal stippling I had them add the Guy Fawkes mask into the stippling and on the slide with white Cerakote. The grip was also reduced to my hand size and finger grooves added for better grip and hand positioning. The base was then coated in Cerakote Graphite Black and finished. The slide was custom coated in Fire Engine Red with Silver and White splatter. I saw a gun coated similarly on the internet and I liked it so much I wanted one like it, but I wanted it done in the Guy Fawkes style instead of the Punisher as the one I saw the original Glock was done in. I have to say when the original owner of the other gun saw mine, he got very upset. Apparently he doesn’t know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Either that or he was upset that this one looks much better than his, I don’t know, don’t care. I thought his looked cool and I wanted one that was better. I guess he forgot that most guns are copies of someone else gun. If I put a Wilson Combat barrel on my gun, it doesn’t mean I am the only one with that barrel.

I have to say that after owning this gun since it came out, I love it even more now that is has been modified to fit my hand and it is no longer the old dull black!

Let’s take a look at some of the basic specifications:

  • Caliber: .40S&W (although Glock likes to leave off the “S&W” part)
  • Overall Length: 7.32 inches
  • Overall Height: 5.43 inches
  • Overall Width: 1.18 inches
  • Weight = 34 ounces (loaded)
  • Barrel length = 4.5 inches

And perhaps the three most important:

  • Capacity = 15+1 (optional 17 round magazines are available)
  • Sight Radius = 6.5 inches
  • Trigger Pull = 5.5 lbs.

All right…addressing the importance of those last three:

  1. Capacity: While I am a fan of the government model and therefore take no issue with a weapon that uses a seven-round magazine (+1 in the chamber), in today’s law enforcement community a magazine capacity of at least ten rounds is essential if you want to compete in the market. With many 9mm pistols holding fifteen rounds per magazine and some competitor .40 caliber weapons holding as few as eleven rounds per magazine, the Glock 22 15 rounds per magazine capacity is a strength. Additionally, with the seeming increase in active shooter incidents and the potential reality of a looming on-the-ground terrorist attack, more bullets are always better.
  2. Sight Radius: Small aiming errors can result in big misses at the target. The longer a weapon’s sight radius, the less chance exists to make aiming mistakes. A 6.5 inch sight radius –the distance between the front and rear sight–is significant on a handgun. As a comparison, the sight radius on my Springfield Armory 1911 pistol is also 6.5 inches.
  3. Trigger pull: 5.5 lbs. On Glock’s competition guns you can get a 3.5 pound trigger pull. Why lighter on a competition gun? Because when you have to apply more pressure to the trigger, you run a proportionately greater chance of pushing your sight alignment/sight picture out of whack. Many double-action guns have an initial trigger pull of eight pounds or more. With a consistent 5.5 lbs. trigger pull, the Glock pistols provide a repeated even trigger pull time after time.
