Follow Us Heckler & Koch firearms seem to dwell in a realm of their own, a higher plane of existence to which other guns can only aspire. It is a place that has been well earned through sheer strength of German-bred skill, precision, and ingenuity. The HK MR762A1 is certainly no exception, delivering performance equal to its reputation and offering… Read more →
Follow Us My first 22 that I purchased back in the 80’s was the popular Ruger 10/22. These 22LR are rugged, customizable till your heart is content and they are deadly accurate. So when I was looking to change the look of my first Ruger 10/22 I wanted to turn it back into a rifle and not a wanna be… Read more →
This rifle is my first AR 15 I ever got. My friend made this Colt HBAR for me prior to the 1984 Assault Weapons Ban that our not so bright government thought they would pass and restrict our rights to bear arms, which then increased crime and they realized is was a bad idea and did not renew it. So, I figured that before they restricted my rights, I would purchase my first AR 15 before and I did. This rifle cost me $1400 at the time, which was fueled by the ban. The Colt HBAR has an 18′ heavy barrel and is filled with Match parts. It also has a cult upper and trigger work done to it to have a nice crisp low poundage trigger (around 3lbs). It doesn’t have any special Nickle Boron BCG, they didn’t have them at the time.
The rifle also has a custom hand guard that is made by my friend. Which helps offset the weight from the heavy barrel. Plus it gives it a cool look. This rifle is over 30 years old if my memory serves me right on when it was made, though I could be off, it’s been that long. I do know that when i used to go to the yearly competition we setup in the desert with my friends, I always won the rifle competition, mostly because I am a very good shot with rifles, but also because of the accuracy of this Colt HBAR. I am very proud to be the owner of this rifle and I plan on owning it for many more years. I might look to upgrading some of the parts, maybe the stock and purchasing new Optics to put on the rifle. Turning this into a true sniper AR 15 since it is pretty much there already, just needs to be modernized. But for now, I am just going to leave it as it is and enjoy the fond memorie I have while shooting this rifle.
Ruger makes a series of their very popular .22 Long Rifles. I already owned one Ruger I purchased back in the 80’s. I wanted to get another one just because they are such well made .22 Long Rifles. I already have magazines for this brand.
So, I figured I would also get a zombie themed one as well, because honestly, if there is a zombie outbreak and they are the slow zombies like in the Walking Dead, a .22 would be pretty sure bet as a gun to be used to clear out those pesky zombies hanging around the gate to your fortified prison that the Governor is trying to get into! So, we all know that those slow, stupid and often surprisingly crazy, brainless zombies can be a pain and should always be thinned out as they amass themselves trying to get a bite of your human flesh! So now I have a means to cheaply thin them out without using my larger calibers.
Now, if they are fast zombies, like the ones in 28 Day’s, then a 10/22 is not the rifle of choice, at least not to try and stop fast moving zombies. It could still be used to snipe from high, secure locations. But using it as your primary battle rifle to cruise from one location to another is probably not what you want to do. Aside from zombie killing, this rifle is also good for killing small food animals and it is easier to carry large amount of ammo, even though you can’t reload them. .22 LR Ammo might be some of the easiest ammo to get because a lot of houses might have a .22LR while not having larger calibers in their houses.
Here are the stats for this Ruger 10/22:
